A man in New Mexico, Luis Sanchez, was arrested on February 17 for allegedly shooting his wife and her two young children following an accusation of infidelity. The incident occurred in Tijeras, resulting in the death of the 4-year-old boy and leaving the mother and her 1-year-old child critically injured.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office charged Sanchez with multiple felonies, including intentional child abuse resulting in death and aggravated battery of a household member causing great bodily harm. Deputies responded to a domestic violence report and found Sanchez armed with a handgun at his residence, leading to his arrest after a confrontation.

Following the tragic event, the mother and her 1-year-old son were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, while the identity of the woman, an assistant district attorney, has not been disclosed. Sheriff John Allen described the crime scene as one of the most horrific incidents encountered by law enforcement.

Sanchez, 41, allegedly made disturbing statements after the shooting, leaving the house naked and claiming responsibility for the act. The 911 call reporting the incident was described as one of the most distressing calls received by authorities, with the victim recounting being shot after being accused of infidelity.

Sanchez, who had no prior criminal record, is currently held at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center without bond. He is scheduled for a detention hearing on February 25, with the status of his legal representation remaining unclear.
