Exclusive: Inside the Tkachuk Family's Influence on Team USA Hockey
Team USA hockey stars Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, known as the modern-day Bash Brothers, have been influential in changing the perception of American hockey. Matthew plays as a forward for the Florida Panthers, while his younger brother Brady is the captain of the Ottawa Senators.
Although they had not played on the same team except at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game, they teamed up for the 4 Nations Face-Off in February 2025 and later joined the Team USA Olympic team in February 2026. The brothers hail from a hockey family background, with their father, Keith Tkachuk, having played for the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes.
Matthew Tkachuk spent his formative years in hockey arenas, growing up around the sport due to his father's career. He attended Chaminade Preparatory School before joining the USA Hockey National Development Program and eventually being drafted by the Calgary Flames in 2016.
Similarly, Brady Tkachuk followed in his brother's footsteps, playing with the USA Hockey National Development Program before exploring collegiate hockey at Boston University. He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 2018 and became the franchise's 10th captain in November 2021.
Keith Tkachuk, a legendary American hockey player, had a successful 18-year NHL career, playing for various teams. His wife, Chantal Tkachuk, played a crucial role in supporting his career and taking care of their children, including Matthew, Brady, and their sister Taryn, who is an accomplished field hockey athlete.
