What's Next for Olympic Star Kamila Sellier Post Blade Incident?
Polish speed skater Kamila Sellier, 25, shared a positive update after an accident during the 2026 Winter Olympics where she was cut on her face by a skate blade. Sellier expressed gratitude for the support received and reassured followers that she was doing well.
Sellier was injured during the women's 1500m event on February 20 when she collided with Team USA skater Kristen Santos-Griswold. Santos-Griswold's skate blade cut Sellier's face, resulting in her being stretchered off the ice.
Journalist Mateusz Ligęza reported that Sellier remained conscious throughout the incident and suffered damage to her zygomatic bone, also known as her cheekbone. Meanwhile, CBC reporter Devin Heroux suggested that poor ice conditions might have contributed to the accident.
Sellier, a short track skater, had been actively sharing her Olympic journey on social media. She had previously helped Team Poland secure silver at the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in March 2025.
In May 2025, Kamila married fellow speed skater Diané Sellier. While Diané did not compete in the 2026 Olympics, he showed unwavering support for his wife following the accident, urging well wishes for her recovery.
