Polish speed skater Kamila Sellier, 25, shared an optimistic update after getting slashed in the face by a skate during the 2026 Winter Olympics. She posted a selfie from a hospital bed on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the support.

Sellier, competing in the women's 1500m event on February 20, collided with Team USA's Kristen Santos-Griswold, resulting in a serious injury near her eye. Santos-Griswold was penalized for an illegal move, leading to their crash.

Santos-Griswold's skate blade cut Sellier's face, causing her to be taken off the ice on a stretcher by medical staff. Despite the incident, Sellier remained conscious and even flashed a thumbs up to the crowd as she left the competition.

Journalists reported Sellier suffered damage to her cheekbone during the accident. Speculation arose about poor ice conditions at the venue contributing to the incident, with concerns raised about the ice quality after weeks of competition.

Sellier, a short track speed skater, had been actively sharing her Olympic journey on social media. She previously helped Team Poland secure a silver medal at the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in March 2025.

In May 2025, Kamila Sellier married fellow speed skater Diané Sellier, who showed unwavering support for his wife after her Olympic crash. Diané requested positive energy for her recovery, expressing confidence in her strength to bounce back.
