What I Learned from an Eye-Opening Invite
Two weeks ago, I was invited to a baby shower for a close friend and offered to cook for the event expecting around fifty guests. I spent the whole day preparing a full menu with care and dedication to contribute to the celebration.
The night before the event, I received a message retracting the invitation but requesting the food I had already prepared. This left me feeling confused and disappointed as the joy of helping turned into discomfort.
Initially questioning myself, I later realized that true kindness should not involve being taken for granted. I understood the importance of mutual respect in giving and receiving help, rather than feeling obligated.
The following morning, I politely declined to provide the food under the changed circumstances. Instead, I shared the dishes with those who appreciated the effort, turning a disappointing situation into a lesson in self-worth.
Setting boundaries and valuing oneself is not selfish, and true generosity is best met with appreciation. Respecting oneself is sometimes the most significant form of celebration.
