What Really Happened: Chef Anne Burrell Didn't Receive Narcan from Medics at the Scene
Paramedics who arrived at the scene where Food Network star Anne Burrell passed away did not administer Narcan as it was too late, according to a police report. Narcan can reverse opioid overdoses quickly but was not used as she was already deceased when discovered in her Brooklyn home by her husband on June 17, 2025.
Reportedly, Burrell, aged 55, was found on the shower floor of the bathroom by her husband at 7:40 a.m. She was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. after emergency responders arrived and discovered over-the-counter medications nearby.

According to the NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Burrell's cause of death was "acute intoxication due to the combined effects of various substances." Investigators found a "suicidal note" and journal entries in her bedroom on February 18.
Burrell's husband mentioned she had never shown signs of suicidal behavior before. He found her unresponsive, called 911, and she was pronounced dead "at the scene" by the NYPD.
