Ye Allegedly Refuses Freedom: Project Manager Stuck at Malibu Mansion Demolition Site
Court testimony this week focused on a claim that Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, allegedly instructed a worker to live in his Malibu beach house during demolition and prohibited him from leaving.
The worker, Tony Saxon, was hired by Ye in 2021 to manage a project at the oceanfront property. Saxon testified that his responsibilities included supervising demolition crews, coordinating construction tasks, sending photo updates, and overseeing day-to-day operations.
Saxon testified on February 25 that Ye told him to stay on site constantly, even sleeping on a mattress on the concrete floor inside the home. Ye allegedly removed various features like plumbing, electrical wiring, windows, a jacuzzi, and a black marble bathroom to create an off-the-grid bunker.
Ye's legal team argues that Saxon was an independent contractor, not an employee. Saxon claims he was fired after expressing safety concerns during demolition. The trial is ongoing, with text messages presented as evidence in court.
During his testimony, Saxon described Ye's strict instructions and the extensive renovations ordered by the rapper. Ye wanted the residence to be self-sufficient with its own power and water systems, disconnected from the city's grids.
