After Sinkhole Swallows Cars, Nebraska-Omaha Basketball Duo Comes to Rescue
Two women's basketball players from the University of Nebraska-Omaha became heroes when they helped two drivers escape their cars that had fallen into a sinkhole after practice on February 24.
Olivia Borsutzki, a student-athlete, and her teammate Esra Kurban were returning from practice when they saw the cars in the sinkhole and a driver trying to get out.
Borsutzki realized the severity of the situation and, along with Kurban, rushed to assist the stranded driver. They managed to get both drivers out of the sinkholes safely before police arrived.
Despite the danger, the players acted quickly without much thought. Both drivers were shaken but unharmed when the police arrived at the scene.
After the incident, the players reflected on the gravity of the situation and the importance of helping others in need, emphasizing the need for action over bystander recording.
Their actions gained attention on social media, with a video of the rescue going viral and receiving support from their basketball team and coach.
