Exciting: Electric Flying Taxis by Uber Air Coming to Dubai Soon
Uber and Joby Aviation have partnered to launch "Uber Air," an electric air taxi service in Dubai by the end of 2026. This new mode of urban transportation will be integrated into the Uber app, allowing users to book flights with ease.
Efficient and Innovative Aircraft
The electric air taxis will transport four passengers and a pilot using all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) technology. Equipped with six tilting propellers, these aircraft combine the vertical takeoff of a helicopter with the speed of an airplane, reaching speeds of up to 200 mph. They are designed to be quiet, blending into the city soundscape.
The air taxis will significantly reduce travel times in Dubai; for example, a journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah that typically takes 45 minutes by road will only take 12 minutes in the air. The fleet offers a 100-mile range on a single charge, catering to quick hops between busy city districts.
Premium Passenger Experience
Infrastructure for the service is underway, with plans for four primary "vertiports" at key locations in Dubai. These dedicated sites include Dubai International Airport, Dubai Mall, American University of Dubai, and Atlantis The Royal on Palm Jumeirah, ensuring convenient access for passengers.
Passengers can expect a premium experience with comfortable seating, panoramic windows, and space for carry-on luggage. Each flight will be operated by a certified commercial pilot for safety. The pricing is anticipated to be within the premium "Uber Black" range, catering to business travelers and tourists.
Joby Aviation has an exclusive agreement with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority for six years. Following Dubai, the company aims to expand to U.S. markets like Los Angeles and New York once FAA certification is obtained, after over 50,000 miles of successful flight tests.
