Federal authorities are investigating the death of Maleeka “Mollie” Boone, an indigenous girl who went missing on January 15 while playing in Coalmine, Arizona. They now believe she was hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident.

The FBI's Phoenix Field Office and the Navajo Nation Police Department disclosed on February 25 that Boone was likely struck by a passing vehicle on the night of January 15. They suspect the driver may have been unaware of hitting the little girl, explaining why the vehicle did not stop.

Boone, a Navajo Nation member, was reported missing around 6 p.m. on January 15. She was believed to have been returning home after playing with friends when she was hit by the passing vehicle.

A Turquoise Alert, a public notification system in Arizona for missing individuals, was issued shortly after Boone's disappearance.

Discovery of Boone's Body and Investigation

Boone's body was found in a field within the Coalmine Navajo Housing Authority neighborhood on the morning of January 16. Various law enforcement agencies were involved in the search for Boone and are seeking information on vehicles that were on Cedar Loop Road during the evening of January 15.

The FBI has established a command station in Coalmine, continuing the search for information. Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren expressed condolences for Boone's tragic passing and urged the public to respect the family's privacy during this difficult time.

Appeal for Information and Reward

The FBI announced a $25,000 reward for details regarding Boone's death on February 26. Anyone with relevant information or knowledge of a vehicle in the area on January 15 is encouraged to contact the FBI or submit tips online.

The ongoing investigation has not revealed whether the driver involved has been identified or will face charges related to Boone's death.
