Justin Timberlake, 45, is seeking to prevent the Sag Harbor Police Department from releasing bodycam footage of his 2024 DWI arrest. He filed a lawsuit on March 2, arguing that the release would invade his privacy. Timberlake took legal action after a media FOIA request for the recording.

In June 2024, Timberlake was arrested for DWI at the American Hotel and later pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in the Hamptons. His attorney claims that releasing the footage could harm his reputation and subject him to ridicule and harassment.

Attorney Rachael Bennett explains that while Timberlake can try to block the footage's release, police videos are generally considered public record under the Freedom of Information Law Act. His strongest argument could be privacy concerns or interference with an ongoing case.

Bennett notes that as the arrest was in a public street, the expectation of privacy is limited. She suggests that the judge may allow redactions like blurring faces or removing personal details rather than sealing the footage entirely to control Timberlake's reputation.

As part of his plea deal, Timberlake must complete 25 to 40 hours of community service, pay a $500 fine, and issue a public safety announcement. His attorney is aiming for damage control to protect his client's image.
