Alleged Teen 'Party' Mom Hosted Wild Events, Promoted Risky Behavior
A California woman, dubbed a "party mom" by prosecutors, has been found guilty of 48 criminal charges for allegedly hosting alcohol-fueled parties for teenagers at her home. During these parties, she reportedly encouraged them to engage in sexual acts while intoxicated, with some teens too drunk to consent.
The majority of the teens involved were 14 and 15 years old. Shannon O'Connor, 51, was accused of providing alcohol, including vodka and whiskey, and distributing condoms to minors at the gatherings. Prosecutors stated that she warned the victims not to disclose the parties.
The events occurred between June 2020 and May 2021 in Los Gatos, California. O'Connor was found guilty of felony child abuse charges, including two felony sex offenses, after a jury trial where numerous witnesses testified.
Allegations and Consequences
Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen condemned O'Connor's actions, stating that she coordinated sexual assaults and endangered the teens' safety. O'Connor's defense attorney did not respond to requests for comment. She faces a potential maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors described instances where intoxicated teens were sexually assaulted at O'Connor's parties. The teens would reportedly become extremely intoxicated and even unconscious. O'Connor was also accused of inviting teens via text or Snapchat to drink at her home.
During one incident, a teen drove O'Connor's car in a high school parking lot, resulting in another teen being knocked unconscious. Despite the jury's verdict, O'Connor's defense expressed disappointment in the decision. Her sentencing is scheduled for March 26.
