Shocking Twist: Teacher at North Carolina Christian School Utilized AI for Inappropriate Images of Children
A man from North Carolina, Richard Lynn Upright, who previously taught at a Christian school, has been arrested for allegedly using artificial intelligence to produce sexually explicit images involving children. The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office characterized his actions as despicable.
Authorities initiated an investigation into Upright, aged 56, in December after Google alerted them about a Drive account connected to him. The account raised concerns about child sexual exploitation, leading to his identification by law enforcement. Following his arrest, Upright was terminated from his teaching position at Vandalia Christian School in Greensboro.
During a court session on March 2, a detective disclosed that Upright was apprehended following the execution of a search warrant at the school on February 27. Investigators allegedly found 111 explicit images on Upright’s devices, with indications that they were produced using artificial intelligence or photo-editing tools to insert children’s faces into inappropriate images.
Sheriff Danny H. Rogers announced that the accused faces 10 charges of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The investigation remains ongoing, and individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact Detective S. Miller at (336) 641-3451 or Guilford County Crime Stoppers at (336) 373-1000.
