Originally from South Sudan, Ajak and his family fled to the United States when he was a child. He came to the U.S. at 14 on a basketball scholarship, eventually playing for Syracuse. Recently, he faced several arrests for disorderly conduct and trespassing.
Ajak, who was homeless before his detention, was trying to return to grad school after his student visa expired. He completed his undergraduate degree in 2023 but didn't finish his graduate courses.
According to his LinkedIn, Ajak founded a non-profit organization called The HumBolFund to help underprivileged children access education. He expressed a desire to work with the United Nations to create opportunities for African youth.
