Nearly four years after being indicted, a Bangladeshi man has been captured and extradited to the United States for allegedly leading an international child sexual exploitation ring. Zobaidul Amin, 28, faced charges in an Anchorage court, including child pornography, cyberstalking, and wire fraud.

Authorities claim Amin used social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat to coerce minors into producing explicit images. He was arrested in Malaysia where he was studying medicine, and allegedly shared hundreds of explicit images of minors online.

A detention memo revealed that Amin manipulated victims by assuming false identities, causing some to become suicidal. The investigation began after a 14-year-old girl from Alaska reported the abuse to authorities.

Operation Bad Santa: 12 Child Predators Arrested

In a related case, New Jersey police arrested twelve child predators as part of "Operation Bad Santa," an undercover operation targeting individuals trying to lure children through social media. The success of the operation was confirmed by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.

Prosecutors noted that Amin believed he was beyond the reach of law enforcement due to his location in Malaysia. He will remain in custody until his trial date is set, following his extradition to the U.S.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi praised the return of Amin from Malaysia as a victory in combating online child exploitation. Resources for protecting children from abuse can be found at Know2Protect, and suspicions of child abuse should be reported to the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline.
