NASA’s Artemis II mission is making history as the agency’s first crewed journey around the Moon in more than 50 years. The four astronauts launched on April 1, 2026, aboard the Orion spacecraft and completed a close flyby of the lunar surface, marking a major milestone in the mission.

The Crew

Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen make up the Artemis II crew, each playing a key role as the mission tests critical systems for future lunar landings. Their journey signifies NASA’s return to deep space exploration.

Reid Wiseman: Wiseman, a veteran NASA astronaut and the commander of Artemis II, previously spent time aboard the International Space Station. He leads the crew on the 10-day mission, guiding operations as they venture beyond low Earth orbit.

Victor Glover: A NASA astronaut and U.S. Navy captain, Glover serves as the pilot of Artemis II. He is a decorated test pilot and played a key role in the SpaceX Crew-1 mission. On this mission, he operates the Orion spacecraft, pushing deep into space.

Christina Koch: Koch, a NASA astronaut and mission specialist, holds the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. On Artemis II, she supports spacecraft systems and experiments, becoming the first woman to travel beyond low Earth orbit and circle the Moon.

Jeremy Hansen: Hansen, a Canadian astronaut and former fighter pilot, joins Artemis II as a mission specialist. This mission marks his first trip to space, making him one of the first non-Americans to travel beyond low Earth orbit and around the Moon.
