The Real Housewives of Orange County, the original show in the franchise, is marking 20 years on the air with cast and crew reminiscing about the early days.

Origins and Growth

The show debuted on March 21, 2006, featuring Orange County residents including Jeana Keough, Vicki Gunvalson, Lauri Peterson, Kimberly Bryant, and Jo De La Rosa. Initially, Season 1 consisted of just eight episodes but expanded to spawn a franchise covering women from various U.S. cities.

The concept for the show came from one of its original producers, Scott Dunlop, who was inspired by living in Coto de Caza and befriending Jeana Keough, one of the original Housewives.

Getting Vicki on Board

Vicki Gunvalson, an OG of RHOC, almost didn't join the show. Her involvement stemmed from her son Michael's letter to Scott Dunlop. Despite initial reluctance, Vicki eventually agreed to participate, even against her husband's disinterest.

Despite facing criticism, Vicki has made a comeback after 20 years. She has returned to the show and is reclaiming her position, despite skepticism around her involvement.

The Real Housewives of Orange County is currently available for streaming on Peacock.
