The Real Housewives of Orange County, the original in the franchise, is marking its 20th year on television. To commemorate the milestone, some cast and crew members are reminiscing about the early days of the show.

Debuting on March 21, 2006, the first season featured Orange County residents like Jeana Keough, Vicki Gunvalson, Lauri Peterson, Kimberly Bryant, and Jo De La Rosa. Initially, the season consisted of only eight episodes.

The brainchild behind the show was one of its original producers, Scott Dunlop, who conceived the idea while residing in the renowned gated community of Coto de Caza. Jeana Keough, one of the original Housewives, was among his first friends in the neighborhood.

Vicki Gunvalson, an original cast member, almost didn't join the show. Her teenage son, Michael, learned about it and initiated contact with Scott Dunlop by writing a letter. Despite initial reluctance, Vicki eventually agreed to participate.

Despite initial reservations from her husband at the time, Vicki decided to join the show, defying objections. Now, two decades later, she has returned to the series. The Real Housewives of Orange County can now be streamed on Peacock.
