What Really Happened Before Vicki Gunvalson Joined RHOC
The Real Housewives of Orange County, the original show in the franchise, is celebrating its 20th anniversary on air. Members of the cast and crew are reminiscing about the early days of the show.
Premiering on March 21, 2006, the first season featured Orange County residents including Jeana Keough, Vicki Gunvalson, Lauri Peterson, Kimberly Bryant, and Jo De La Rosa.
The inaugural season consisted of only eight episodes but went on to become a successful franchise, now showcasing women from multiple U.S. cities.
Origin of the Show
One of the original producers, Scott Dunlop, came up with the idea for the show when he moved to the well-known gated community of Coto de Caza. Jeana Keough, one of the original Housewives, was one of his first friends in the neighborhood.
Vicki Gunvalson, a key figure in the show, initially declined to participate when approached by Scott after her son Michael expressed interest. Despite initial reluctance, Vicki eventually joined the show against her husband's wishes.
Now, two decades later, Vicki is back on the show despite facing criticism. The Real Housewives of Orange County is currently available for streaming on Peacock.
