Florida Woman, 20, Indicted for Giving Birth in Toilet and Letting Baby Drown - Shocking Incident Unveiled
Anne Demegillo, a 20-year-old woman from Florida, has been indicted for allegedly giving birth to her baby in a toilet and allowing the newborn to drown.
Incident Details
According to a news release from the State Attorney of Florida’s Seventh Judicial Circuit, the incident occurred in Demegillo’s home on March 5, 2026. She claimed she was unaware of her pregnancy and cleaned up after giving birth, then placed the baby’s body in a duffel bag, later burying it in a shallow grave.
Searches on Demegillo's phone included terms like “newborn premature babies” and “foods to decrease fertility,” raising further concerns about the case.
Legal Proceedings
During a court appearance on March 12, Demegillo's attorney argued she has no prior convictions or mental health history and is not a threat to society. She was initially released from jail but was later indicted on charges of first-degree premeditated murder and other offenses.
Sheriff Rick Staly expressed shock at the case, emphasizing the tragedy of a mother choosing not to help her newborn in distress. Demegillo's arraignment is scheduled for April 21.
