Florida Woman, 20, Faces Indictment for Allegedly Letting Newborn Drown After Birth in Toilet
Anne Demegillo, a 20-year-old woman from Florida, has been indicted for allegedly giving birth to her baby in a toilet and allowing the newborn to drown.
Incident Details
According to the State Attorney of Florida’s Seventh Judicial Circuit, the incident took place in Demegillo's home on March 5, 2026. She claimed she was unaware of her pregnancy and left the baby in the toilet to die. Demegillo cleaned up after giving birth and placed the newborn's body in a duffel bag, later burying it in a shallow grave.
During a court appearance on March 12, Demegillo's attorney stated she had no prior convictions or mental health history and argued that she is not a threat to society. Despite being released from jail, she was indicted on April 6 for first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated child abuse, and failure to report the death.
Legal Proceedings
The arraignment for Anne Demegillo is scheduled for April 21. Sheriff Rick Staly expressed shock over the case, emphasizing the tragedy of a mother allowing her newborn to die. He questioned how a mother could watch her infant drown instead of saving the baby.
Meanwhile, in Florida, Offset was reportedly shot at a casino, and rapper Lil Tjay was also arrested at the same casino around the time of the shooting.
