Behind-the-Scenes Scoop: Byron Allen Secures CBS Slot After Stephen Colbert’s Departure

Byron Allen has secured a prominent spot in CBS's late-night lineup following the departure of Stephen Colbert. Starting May 22, his show "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen" will air at 11:35 p.m., followed by his game show "Funny You Should Ask" at midnight, giving him control of the network's late-night block.

All of this comes after Allen settled a $10 billion racial discrimination lawsuit against McDonald's less than a year ago. The lawsuit accused the company of neglecting Black-owned media while favoring other outlets in its advertising budget. Despite this legal battle, Allen's media properties like The Weather Channel and TheGrio have now secured a significant presence in CBS late night.

Allen's journey to late night is unique, having started as a stand-up comedian at a young age and later building Allen Media Group into a successful enterprise by acquiring undervalued assets. His transition to late-night programming marks a significant milestone in his career, as he steps into a role he has long desired.

Unlike most late-night hosts, Allen's ascent to this position was not through auditioning but through his strategic positioning in the industry. With his established background and experience, he is now not just a participant in late night but a key player shaping its programming.
