After Court Decision, Lil Nas X Joins Program to Resolve Police Assault Allegations
A Los Angeles judge has granted Lil Nas X entry into a mental health diversion program, paving the way for his felony charges to be dropped. The 26-year-old artist, Montero Lamar Hill, attended court to address fallout from his arrest in August 2025.
The case stemmed from an incident where Hill was found walking in his underwear and cowboy boots along Ventura Boulevard. He was accused of resisting arrest and battery on officers. Following the incident, Hill was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a factor considered by Judge Alan Schneider in approving the diversion program.
If Hill completes the two-year program and stays compliant with the law, the four felony counts against him will be dismissed. Hill expressed gratitude after the hearing, acknowledging the situation could have been worse. Judge Schneider highlighted Hill's positive progress and the importance of proper treatment for individuals and society.
Hill's legal team mentioned his proactive steps towards recovery, including a stay at an Arizona treatment facility. The impact of fame and personal struggles on Hill was also discussed during the proceedings. His father, Robert Stafford, shared insights on the pressure Hill faces as a provider and dealing with his mother's addiction.
Initially pleading not guilty to the charges, which could have led to a five-year prison term, Hill left the courthouse showing relief and optimism. The focus now shifts to prioritizing his health and well-being over incarceration, as he embraces the opportunity for a better path forward.
