A school bus driver in Virginia was arrested for allegedly strangling a student while on the way to school. The incident came to light on March 30 when police received a report of a disturbance at Linkhorne Elementary School in Lynchburg, Virginia.

An investigation revealed that the bus driver assaulted the student while the bus was parked in the school lot. Authorities confirmed that the student was strangled but did not suffer life-threatening injuries and is now safe.

Arrest and Charges

The bus driver, Effie Wynn, was arrested on April 4 and charged with strangulation and child neglect. She is currently in custody at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond. It is unclear if Wynn, aged 73, has entered a plea or retained legal counsel.

The Lynchburg Police Department expressed gratitude for their collaboration with the school administration and stated that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

Legal Ramifications

If found guilty of strangulation, Wynn could face one to five years in state prison and a fine of up to $2,500 under Virginia Law. Child neglect sentences in Virginia vary based on the severity of the offense and whether it is classified as a misdemeanor or felony.
