Speculation arose after Rodrigo's debut album Sour released in 2021. Taylor Swift was credited on “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back” for sampling “New Year’s Day.” The issue reportedly intensified when Swift received songwriting credit on Rodrigo’s “Deja Vu.”

Clarification and Songwriting Credits

Rodrigo reiterated in September 2023 that she doesn’t have conflicts with anyone in the industry. Previously, she added Hayley Williams and Josh Farro as songwriters on "Good 4 U" due to similarities with Paramore's "Misery Business."
