Anna Faris' Sobriety Revelation: The Unexpected Gift That Changed Everything
Anna Faris revealed she “stopped drinking” in a new interview.
The “Mom” alum shared with “Dear Chelsea” podcast listeners Thursday that she stopped feeling “ungracious” for her career as a comedic actress “only in the last year.”
“I really started to notice and appreciate if and when people recognize me, they would usually smile … thinking about something f–king stupid I did onscreen,” the “House Bunny” star explained, which led host Chelsea Handler to ask whether that had to do with her no longer drinking.
“Do you think that has to do with not drinking?” Handler asked. “Because I know you stopped drinking. Maybe that lit that a little bit.”
Faris, 49, confirmed this, calling her mindset shift “one of the many gifts” of sobriety.
She added, “Turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression for me for sure. I had to take a step back to not self-sabotage.”
The “Scary Movie” star also credited hormone patches, saying those “made a huge difference” in her mental health.
She did not elaborate further on her sobriety, nor did she specify exactly when she began abstaining from alcohol.
Faris’ rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Faris has not opened up about her drinking in past interviews, but did play a newly sober single mother on “Mom” from 2013 to 2020.
She left the CBS series one season before its end, revealing on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast in June that she exited over the show’s “intensity.”
“I started to lose my focus,” Faris recalled. “I never had a job besides waitressing for over three months before. … It was a complicated time.”
While Faris did not speak about the award-winning project with Handler on Thursday, she did make rare comments on her two divorces — and characterized her marriage to Michael Barrett as “third time is a charm.”
“As lame as it sounds, I needed to understand how I wanted to be loved, how I received love. I don’t think I did that very well,” she reflected on her time with ex-husbands Ben Indra and Chris Pratt.
Faris also gave rare insight into her and Pratt’s 13-year-old son, Jack, dubbing him as “solid as a tugboat emotionally” and not “easily jarred.”
She noted, “He is religious. He’s asked me to accept Jesus Christ. I told him I would do anything for him, including this, but it’s going to take a whole lot of conversations. He’s impressive.”
Faris clarified that she “challenges” her teen by asking questions like, “Do you think it’s a luxury that you get to be pro-life? Or what do you think of this mega pastor who is kind of a grifter?”
She said, “We’re getting there. I’m appreciative that he’s examining religion the way he is in terms of starting to recognize hypocrisy.”
Faris gave birth to Jack in 2012, five years before splitting from Pratt, who has also welcomed three more children — daughter Lyla, 6, daughter Eloise, 4, and son Ford, 1 — with wife Katherine Schwarzenegger.
