Police shot and killed a man on the Brooklyn Bridge after he charged at them with a knife early Friday, according to sources, snarling the morning commute.

Officers had responded to someone in need and found the knife-wielding man climbing the cables, sources said.

He lunged at them and police opened fire, killing him, according to the sources. The NYPD did not immediately confirm the details.

All Brooklyn-bound lanes were closed beginning around 4:15 a.m. and remained closed as of 7:30 a.m., according to 511NY.

The NYPD warned people to avoid the area and to expect delays “due to ongoing police activity.”
