Joe Manganiello's Shocking Claims About Sofia Vergara You Can't Ignore
Joe Manganiello’s new memoir includes more than a few mentions of his ex-wife, Sofía Vergara.
While celebrating the release of Bloodlines, Manganiello seemingly grabbed the attention of Vergara when she reshared a quote about narcissistic men.
“Remember kids, when dealing with a narcissist, it doesn’t matter how much you do for them, because they will resent you for it and nothing will ever be enough, and they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy,” Vergara’s October 8 post read.
In an interview with CBS Mornings, Manganiello was asked by host Gayle King to react to Vergara’s post.
The actor insisted his book is about so much more than his previous relationship.
“I think anybody who said that should read the book first and understand what the book is actually about because it’s not about that. It’s about the suffering that I went through,” he said on October 12. “I try to paint everyone with an amount of grace, no matter who they are. Because it is a nuanced discussion, and it’s not something that I care to carry out on social media. I’m here to talk to you, and I hope that people pick up the book because what it’s about, is it’s about survival and it’s also about hope.”
As readers pick up a copy of Bloodlines, Us is taking a look at the biggest revelations related to Vergara below:
Joe Manganiello Shares Sofía Vergara’s Reaction to His Illness
In his new book, Manganiello opened up about his private, seven-year health battle, which allegedly took a toll on his marriage to Vergara. (He underwent multiple colonoscopies and had emergency surgery to remove part of his intestines, but never received a formal diagnosis.)
According to People, Manganiello wrote that his marriage had “become devoid of any emotionality whatsoever.” He also alleged that Vergara refused to hug him when he was in need of support, even when he begged.
Us has reached out to Vergara’s team for comment on the book and her ex-husband’s allegations.
Joe Manganiello Also Credits Sofía Vergara for Life-Saving Decision
According to Manganiello, Vergara played an important role in his health journey by allowing doctors to remove his severely infected large intestine while he was in surgery.
“While I was under, they called Sofía, who, as my next of kin, had to choose what she thought I would want the doctors to do,” he wrote via Entertainment Weekly. “She made the brutal but lifesaving decision to allow my entire large intestine to be removed and for a hole to be cut into my abdomen to divert my small intestine.”
When Manganiello woke up after a 10-hour surgery, Vergara was by his side and informed him “the surgery had saved my life but had left me with an ostomy bag for an indefinite amount of time, possibly forever.”
Joe Manganiello Says a Shaman Believes Sofía Vergara’s Ex Put a Voodoo Curse on Him
When searching for answers about his illness, Manganiello recalled receiving a surprise theory from a shaman claiming someone had placed a “voodoo curse” on him because they still had feelings for Vergara.
The shaman also pointed out that the actor was “sick” and “something is wrong with his intestines.”
“There were members of my close family who didn’t know any of that, let alone some random guy on the phone. I side-eyed Sofía with a look that was equal parts fear, anger and disbelief,” Manganiello wrote via Entertainment Weekly before recalling more of the shaman’s words. “‘Someone from your past is still in love with you. He put a voodoo curse on your husband. He did it in New Orleans. Your husband needs to be cleansed and protected. I can do this. I can help him. But I need to see him for two days, and I cannot come to the United States. Can he meet me somewhere else? I could meet him in Ecuador.’”
Manganiello recalled looking at Vergara and “trying to comprehend how the f*** this guy could possibly know any of this. None of this had been mentioned in the press. No one knew.”
Did Tom Cruise Prevent Joe Manganiello From Being Cast on a TV Show?
Manganiello questioned if Cruise may have blocked him from starring as Jack Reacher because of their mutual ex.
When Manganiello learned he didn’t land the Amazon role, Page Six reported that the actor claimed in Bloodlines that his team speculated that Cruise, “an executive producer [on the show], could have potentially come in over the top and vetoed my being cast on account of Sofía.”
Cruise allegedly dated Vergara in 2005 but is not listed on IMDb as part of the Reacher production. Us has reached out to Cruise’s team for comment.
