Donnie Wahlberg's Plane Scare: What Really Happened on the Runway?
Boston Blue's Donnie Wahlberg is speaking out after a private plane he was on skidded off the runway at a Las Vegas airport.
“We were taking off and didn’t get up in the air and ran out of runway. I’m just going to tell you these pilots saved our lives," Wahlberg, 57, said in an Instagram post on Sunday, October 18. "And God covered us."
He continued: "We just finished praying, and I looked out the window and said, ‘We are not getting up in the air today.’ But we’re safe and thankful and all is well.”
The actor confirmed that the plane went off the runway into a fence. He noted that the aircraft was able to avoid “heavy” airport vehicles and equipment.
Harry Reid International Airport confirmed the incident in a statement shared via social media.
"At approximately 11 a.m., upon departure, a general aviation aircraft skid off runway 1L at LAS and made contact with the perimeter fence," the post read. "There are no known injuries at this time. Runways 1R and 1L will be closed for inspection, and travelers may experience some delays. We will provide updates as more information becomes available."
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was bound for Toronto Pearson Airport in Canada. There were eight people on board when the pilot aborted the takeoff and went off the runway, which led to the plane skidding into the fence.
Before sharing his update via social media, Wahlberg sent the video to his loved ones.
“So many of you all are my family too so I figured I’d share with you," he wrote on Sunday. “It was me and my team/friends onboard the aircraft. It was a rather intense few moments.”
Wahlberg continued: “Thankful to God, of course, and to our incredible pilots who did an amazing job of keeping us safe and avoiding a serious disaster. The airplane did take some lumps — but we did not. Thank you to all the emergency personnel on the ground in Las Vegas! You all were absolutely wonderful."
One day before the incident, Wahlberg performed with New Kids on the Block for the final show of their Las Vegas residency. He posted a photo of himself on the plane via his Instagram Story, writing, “His love is eternal.”
