NYPD cops shot a career criminal after he refused to drop his gun, pointed it at officers and then got into a gunfight near a Bronx daycare on Monday afternoon.

Victor Soto, 49, was shot by officers after he menaced customers inside Sammy Gourmet Deli on Bainbridge Avenue and East 194th Street in the Bronx around 3:20 p.m., Assistant Chief at Patrol Borough Bronx North Aneudy Castillo said at a press conference.

Soto whipped out his gun inside the deli, racked the weapon and pointed it at terrified patrons, forcing them to “duck for cover” before walking northbound, Castillo told reporters.

Two uniformed officers in an NYPD vehicle then spotted the gun nut “violently slam” the firearm into the glass window of the deli — causing the cops to issue verbal commands for him to drop the weapon.

Instead, he pointed the firearm directly at officers and began a gun battle with cops, shooting as he continued walking northbound.

Soto was shot by one of the officers and taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.

A shocked parent, Alex, told The Post she saw the cops and suspect firing at each other as she picked up her child from a daycare next to the deli.

Soto has a long rap sheet, including eight prior arrests, including for assaults and criminal possession of a firearm.
